Shades of meaning

What do you think the difference is between these two phrases?

I love you.

I'm in love with you.

What if you were the one saying them? What if you were the one hearing them?

Thoughts? Just curious.

  1. This might sound really dorky, but I've thought about this all day since I read this in google reader. :) I think I've decided that saying, "I'm in love with you" is more intimate, because you say, "I love you" to your grandma, but probably not, "I'm in love with you, Grandma!"
